To think of before going on going on your kayak trip

How much you preparation you need for your kayak trip, depends on how long you will paddle, and how the weather will be. At Långholmen kayak, the rental price always includes life jacket, paddle, map and waterproof bag. We are happy to help with advice on appropriate paddle routes depending on the weather conditions of the current day. Below are some things to consider, depending on how long you want to paddle.

For a shorter paddle trip (0-2 hours):
Clothing - It is best to dress as light and little as possible without getting cold too easily. Keep in mind that you will get warm when you paddle. Sportswear (synthetic material) is good - they will breathe and dry quickly if they get wet. A windbreaker is good to have if it blows. Swimwear if you want to take a swim!
Water bottle - Always good to have a water bottle, especially if it's summer and hot!
Determined route - It is good to plan for a paddle route in advance. Usually you can without problems paddle any of the routes that we recommend here. In case it’s very windy, our staff will be happy to recommend a suitable route based on current wind conditions.
Sunscreen - Smear yourself with sunscreen if it's a sunny day, otherwise it is easy to get burned when the sun is reflected the water.
Miscellaneous equipment - we recommend to have with you as little extra equipment as possible, if only paddling for 2 hours.

For you to paddle a little longer tour (4 hours - Full day):
In addition to what we recommended above, we also recommend to bring:
Change of clothes – if you get wet, it might be nice to be able to change clothes. Warm clothing should be brought when staying overnight.
Waterproof clothing - can be nice to be able to protect yourself against the rain if the weather feels unstable.
Food - bring fruit / snacks that can be eaten while you paddle. As for food, it's mostly a matter of packing facilities. Should you be out on a day trip, there is plenty of space for food and you can take with you almost any food. Should you stay one or more nights, it becomes important to pack the kayak carefully and thus choose foods that take limited space.
Packing - always pack the heaviest items in the middle of the kayak in order for the kayak to go as well as possible in the water. Remember to take care of the whole kayak pack volume – it’s possible to pack things right at the front and rear of the kayak, and in front of the feet in the cockpit.

Other equipment that may be useful to have:
Tent
Sleeping pad
Sleeping bag
Trangia kitchen
Matches
Water (about 3 liters per day / person)
Pump
Extra paddle
Towline
