Here you will find a wide range of spray skirts and transport covers in different sizes and designs. The transport cover protects the kayak from dirt and debris during storage and transport, while a spray skirt keeps you dry and warm when you paddle. Do you have questions or would you like advice on which spray skirt or cover is right for you? Feel free to contact us by phone on +46 8 740 05 05 or by email: butiken@langholmenkajak.se
A nylon spray skirt is made of a simple, durable material that keeps the water out when you paddle. It is easy to put on and take off the cockpit, which makes it a big favourite among beginners and fitness paddlers. A nylon spray skirt has an elastic band that makes it fit well around the cockpit. However, the fabric is not elastic like a neoprene spray skirt, so choosing the right size is important.
A neoprene spray skirt is made of a stretchier material that is shaped over the kayak and therefore fits more tightly around the cockpit. The neoprene spray skirt is waterproof and is made to handle somewhat tougher conditions, such as choppy sea/waves or rapids. Many people find that a neoprene spray skirt fits comfortably around the body and therefore use it in calmer weather too. If you are going to roll/do Eskimo rolls, a neoprene spray skirt is preferable, as it does not come off the cockpit so easily. If you are an inexperienced paddler and capsize, you need to pull the neoprene spray skirt off using the small loop at the front.
A transport cover is a full cover that you fasten over the cockpit to protect it from wind and weather during storage and transport. Covering the kayak with a transport cover reduces air resistance and therefore fuel consumption, which is a great advantage if you are driving long distances by car or with a trailer. On longer paddling trips, many people like to bring their cover to protect the cockpit overnight, so that rain and debris do not get in. For winter storage, both outdoors and indoors, a transport/storage cover is recommended to keep dirt and small animals out of the kayak.
