Around Djurgården
Length: approx. 4-6h / 22 km
Degree of difficulty: 5/5 (for those who have paddled a lot before and know buddy rescue)
Djurgården round is a very beautiful tour that includes most of it. This is a day trip so you should have at least 5-6 hours. We recommend that you have paddled a bit before, that you can do a buddy rescue and that you paddle together with someone who is also experienced (along this trip there are many places that lack natural places to pull up the kayak and empty it, should you capsize ).
The highlights of this trip are: the adrenaline rush when you pass the fairway at Stadsgårdskajen, the calm and idyll of Djurgårdskanalen and last but not least the view over Strandvägen, Skeppsholmen and the roar of roller coaster riders when you paddle past Gröna Lund.
The tour starts from our jetty where you paddle out under Långholmsbron and then left past Hornstull Strand and Liljeholmsbron. You then continue past Tantolunden with its swimming and our sister rental Tanto SUP and kayak. You then pass a number of boat clubs, bridges and leafy Årsta islets. When you reach Skanstullsbron and Hammarbyslussen, you wait for your turn. When the lock gates open, you paddle in and lay on one side, holding on to one of the ropes hanging along the edges (kayaking the lock is free). Wait there until the locking is over and then paddle out through the Hammarby Canal.
When you come out to Stadsgårdkajen, it is important to find a suitable time to cross the fairway (make sure that no Finland Ferries or other large ships are about to pass the fairway at the moment you are about to cross it). Then, at a brisk pace, cross the fairway at its shortest possible point.
Once over on the Djurgård side, you follow the shore on your left. Here there are a number of piers that you can stop at if you need to stretch your legs (keep in mind that these piers are a bit demanding to climb on as they are about 60 cm high).
When you have rounded the eastern tip of Djurgården, you can enjoy a slightly more relaxed ride through the Djurgård Canal. After a couple of km you reach the Morderna museum, Djurgårdscaféet, Strandvägen and Skeppsholmen. Enjoy the surroundings and make sure your camera gets to take some nice pictures.
The paddling tour continues past Gröna Lund (look out and watch out for the Djurgård ferries!), towards the Hammarby Canal and then through the Hammarby Slussen and back to Långholmen kayak.
